Nuno Braumann

My idea is to use the camera as a trowel, as an archeological tool.

Not to dig in the past or under the soil, but to record what is still standing. To document buildings or social phenomenon that is at risk of collapse or disappearing. I’m talking about an archaeology more focused on the present and it´s relation to the recent past, but at the same time an archaeology that might be useful in a distant future. Only time will tell.

Born in 1987, Coimbra – Portugal.
He currently lives in Kopparp, southern Sweden, where he is continuing to develop his photographic practice.

After completing his degree in Archeology at the University of Minho in 2013 he began his degree in Sound and Image at the School of Arts and Design in Caldas da Rainha (ESAD.CR). Although he never practiced professionally in the area of Archeology, the training he received had a lot of influence in the works he later developed during his undergraduate degree in Sound and Image. Both at a photographic and videographic level, the idea of data, record, document and the concept of stratigraphy are very present in the projects that he has created.

Some of the films that he directed while still a student were present at some national festivals and events (DocLisboa, Porto/Post/Doc, Curtas Vila do Conde, Avanca, Fest, Caminhos, Bienal de Cerveira…). During the last year of his studies in Sound and Image, he began to develop several photographic projects; PALINGÉNESE was exhibited in the Bienal de Cerveira in 2017, inserted in the exhibition THE FACTOR CAVALO, and QFWFQ – SIGNS IN SPACE was also exposed in 2017 in Leiria at MIMO (Museu da Imagem em Movimento).
